This workshop teaches how to do a traditional life review in midlife or beyond by marking up a graphic image with key events, people, and turning points in each decade. As we fill it in with detail, and stand back to reflect, we may see previously unseen patterns in our life stories. However, this traditional practice is merely the ego’s life review, the way that we consciously reflect on our lives. Connie will add the dimension of Shadow—and illustrate how to connect what was expressed in our lives with what was repressed. As we reflect on what was sacrificed in each decade for our personalities to develop—whether it was a trait, talent, or dream—the unlived life moves into our awareness. And we can choose now to reclaim some of what was banished to the shadow. Note to participants: please bring the largest piece of paper you can find.

Connie Zweig, Ph.D., is a retired therapist, co-author of Meeting the Shadow and Romancing the Shadow, author of Meeting the Shadow of Spirituality and a novel, A Moth to the Flame: The Life of Sufi Poet Rumi. Her forthcoming book, The Inner Work of Age: Shifting from Role to Soul, (Sept. 2021), extends shadow-work into late life and teaches aging as a spiritual practice. Connie has been doing contemplative practices for 50 years. She is a wife and grandmother and was initiated as an Elder by Sage-ing International in 2017. After investing in all these roles, she is practicing the shift to soul.
